Surrounded by perfect white sand beaches and a crystal clear aquamarine lagoon in the unspoilt Meemu Atoll, Medhufushi with its understated sophistication and luxury and many watersports is perfect for honeymooners and couples as well as more active holidaymakers!
Medhufushi is actually the slightly more upmarket sister resort of perhaps our favourite mid-range Maldives resort, Filitheyo, and whilst it was previously seen as a “5 Star entry” resort it now looks as though it is re-positioning itself at the top end of the 4 Star category. This is good news for customers as prices are down and Medhufushi now also offers All Inclusive packages whereas previously drinks were excluded.
There’s certainly plenty to keep guests happy too if they choose Medhufushi! Firstly there’s the stylishly understated accommodation with 120 spacious, attractive and well-equipped rooms – these range from 58 Beach Villas (14 of them with interleading doors perfect for families), more upmarket Family Suites and then our personal favourites, the 44 Water Villas and 2 spectacular stand-alone Lagoon Suites.
The island itself is a real beauty too, with a huge surrounding lagoon providing a spectacular ultra-marine backdrop to your holiday! The shallow sandy bottomed lagoon might be one of the most attractive in the Maldives, however it does also signify the absence of a house reef – so Medhufushi is perhaps not the resort for you if snorkeling off the beach is a top priority for you. Having said that, free snorkeling trips by boat are offered daily to reefs nearby which should keep most guests more than happy.
For pretty much everything other than snorkeling though, Medhufushi is a great place for water-sports enthusiasts. Whilst there’s a professional dive centre on the island (as at just about every other Maldives resort) it’s the other less common water-sports on offer that make Medhufushi quite unusual: for example, a full array of speedboat oriented activities (water-skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding, banana boats etc); adrenaline-junkies will no doubt love the kite-surfing on offer in the huge lagoon; yet another unusual activity on offer is excellent surfing on some nearby breaks!
Back on the island you’re sure to be pretty happy with what’s on offer too: whilst most people will be happy to simply relax on the picture-perfect white sand beaches or around the gorgeous pool, for the more active there are things like beach volleyball and a gymnasium. But if that sounds like too much hard work then rather head for some serious pampering at the gorgeous over-water Spa!
In fact it might perhaps be quite a good idea to try to keep just a little active as your waist-line may well have expanded by the end of your holiday otherwise! The buffets on offer here are extensive, excellent quality and very varied so you’re pretty sure to eat well – guests consistently rave about the fresh seafood with the home-made pasta, Thai food and sushi bar also getting particular thumbs-ups!
